Brixen, 3 July 2020 – The eleventh edition of the Brixen Dolomiten Marathon should have taken place this Saturday. However, at the end of March, at the height of the corona crisis, the organisers around OC boss Christian Jocher decided to cancel the mountain running classic in the South Tyrolean cathedral city. A courageous decision at the time, but one that proved to be spot on due to the restrictions and strict safety regulations that still apply. Now the organisers are starting the countdown for next year’s Brixen Dolomites Marathon, which is scheduled to take place on 3 July 2021.
The Brixen Dolomites Marathon is no longer limited to the classic distance of almost 42.2 kilometres with 2450 metres of altitude difference. The renowned running event was extended by two distances last year to mark its tenth anniversary. Athletes can choose between the LadiniaTrail with a length of 29 kilometres and 1852 metres in altitude, and the Dolomites Ultra Trail with 84 kilometres and 4728 metres in altitude. However, the big Brixen mountain running weekend will already be heralded on Friday when hundreds of women will be competing in the no less famous Women’s Run in the city centre.
“Of course we are still very sorry that we are forced to take a break this year. But the safety and health of the athletes, all the volunteers and the many spectators is paramount. On the other hand, we can prepare the Brixen Dolomites Marathon 2021 with a lead time of over a year. We will do our utmost to ensure that the participants from all parts of the world – last year we had 1000 runners from 34 different nations – will experience an unforgettable weekend under the sign of mountain running”, promises OC President Christian Jocher.
The successors of Andreas Reiterer and Doris Weissteiner (winner marathon), Jimmy Pellegrini and Alexander Rabensteiner (winner Dolomites Ultra Trail), as well as David Lingfors and Heidi Dapunt (winner LadiniaTrail) will thus be determined in exactly one year on Saturday, July 3, 2021. Enrolments for the 11th Brixen Dolomites Marathon will start much earlier. Entries will be possible on the official website brixenmarathon.com/en/registration.html from 1st October.
