First top athlete entered for the Brixen Dolomiten Marathon on 3rd July

Brixen, 3 June 2021 – The countdown is on! In exactly one month’s time, the starting signal will be given for the 11th Brixen Dolomites Marathon on Saturday, 3 July. At the traditional mountain running event in the former bishop’s residence, in addition to the many amateur athletes, numerous top athletes will be in the running. Marco Menegardi is the first top runner to confirm his participation in the 42.195 kilometre race with 2450 metres of altitude difference from Brixen Cathedral Square up to the Plose.

Marco Menegardi is at home in the long distances. The 35-year-old from the province of Brescia recently won the Italian championship title over 100 kilometres. This time, the national championships took place in a special edition on the circuit at the “Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari” in Imola. For the athlete from the club Atletica Paratico it was already the third “Scudetto” of his career. But Menegardi is no stranger to Brixen. At the last Brixen Dolomiten Marathon in July 2019, he finished third behind winner Andreas Reiterer and runner-up Matteo Lucchese.

“We are pleased to announce Marco Menegardi, the first name of a top athlete who will start at the Brixen Dolomiten Marathon. We are in contact with several other top runners and are convinced that in the coming weeks some more outstanding running athletes will enrich our field of participants,” says OC head Christian Jocher.

The Brixen Dolomiten Marathon as a positive sign of new beginnings

Preparations for the mountain running event in Brixen, which in addition to the marathon distance features the Dolomites Ultra Trail (84 km/4728 hm), the LadiniaTrail (29 km/1852 hm) and the new Villnöss Dolomites Run (22.3 km/400 hm), are in full swing. “We are absolutely on target. The whole team is – despite the forced break last year – absolutely well-rehearsed and everyone knows exactly what to do. We will do everything we can to send a positive signal and show that things are finally looking up again after this terrible year. Of course we will run the Brixen Dolomiten Marathon in the greatest possible safety, which means that there may also be some restrictions and we will not be able to run everything as we have been used to in previous years. But that will not detract from the joy of movement in our magnificent landscape and the comparison with other participants,” Jocher is convinced.

Registrations for the Brixen Dolomiten Marathon and the three other distances are also in full swing on the official website. The entry fees have been frozen and so last-minute registrants can register at the lowest price until the end of the registration period on 2 July. However, hurry up, because the organizers have introduced entry limits due to the special situation.

On the other hand, the organizing committee is relying on the tried and tested as far as the starting packages are concerned. As usual, all those registered can look forward to a variety of high-quality products. And as usual, the big Brixen mountain running weekend kicks off on Friday evening (2 July) with the Women’s Run, the traditional women’s race.
