Brixen, 18 December 2018 – South Tyrol’s most traditional mountain marathon will be ten years old! The anniversary edition of the Brixen Dolomiten Marathon will take place in exactly 200 days on Saturday, 6 July 2019. The organizers, headed by OC boss Christian Jocher and President Claudio Zorzi, have come up with numerous surprises and special features on the occasion of the round birthday.
Every year, the Brixner mountain marathon event in early summer attracts hundreds of athletes to the cathedral city. No wonder: As with very few other marathons, the participants are offered a very special atmosphere. At the Brixen Dolomites Marathon there is this very special mix of urban flair in the starting area on the Brixner dome square, coupled with the challenges of high alpine living space around the finish area on the Plose at an altitude of 2450 meters. A combination that is well received – and has been for just ten editions.
“Our aim since the first edition in 2010 has been to let as many runners as possible enjoy our fantastic trail. That is why, in addition to the individual race, which continues to be our main competition, we also offer relay teams of two and four. In recent years, we have noticed that these two formats have been well received and are used by runners who do not (yet) dare to run an entire mountain marathon,” says OC boss Christian Jocher.
Who is fit enough for the Plose?
In keeping with this, a new project was launched a few days ago – also with a view to the 10th anniversary. According to the motto “In 200 days on the Plose”, prospective or even more experienced mountain runners will be prepared specifically for the Brixen Dolomites Marathon. “We will continuously report on the progress made by the project participants on our website and in the social networks. After all, they will have to complete the 42.195 kilometers with 2450 meters of altitude difference from Brixen up to Plose on Saturday, 6 July”, Jocher continues. Another innovation is the “sportiest Team Challenge”. “The 3 teams that ran the most kilometers as a team in the 2019 Brixen Dolomites Marathon will be presented here. Further news regarding the tenth anniversary will be announced in the weeks and months to come”, OC President Claudio Zorzi is still a little cautious.
Registrations for the Brixen Dolomites Marathon 2019 can be made on the organizer’s website www.brixenmarathon.com/en/registration.html . Until 31 December the registration fee for single participants is 69 Euro, for the two relay teams 90 Euro and for the four relay teams 130 Euro. After that the prices will be raised slightly.
