The Villnöss Dolomiten Run as another highlight

Brixen, 21 December 2020 – On the first weekend in July, Brixen has been the centre of the international mountain running scene for a decade. Now the renowned event in the cathedral city wants to attract an additional layer of runners with the Villnöss Dolomites Run and include another South Tyrolean valley community in the event. The new course was presented to the public on Monday in the municipal council hall in Bressanone in the presence of the mayors Peter Brunner (Bressanone) and Peter Pernthaler (Villnöß), as well as Harald Troi (Villnöß Amateur Sports Association), Werner Zanotti (Bressanone Tourism Association) and Klaus Messner (Villnöß Tourism Association).

A distance of 22.3 kilometres with a difference in altitude of around 400 metres on the ascent and 1000 metres on the descent – that’s the Villnöss Dolomites Run in bare figures. But the Villnöss Dolomites Run is more. “It is a route in front of a breathtaking backdrop in the Villnöss Valley with the Geisler peaks in the background. A run for pleasure runners who are looking for a physical challenge in a magnificent natural and cultural landscape with views of the beautiful farms, villages and the beautiful landscapes,” Christian Jocher, OC head of the Brixen Dolomiten Marathon, summed up what is now a total of four runs as part of the Brixen Dolomiten Marathon. “In these anything but easy times we can offer guests and locals something positive. We are looking forward to a good and hopefully long cooperation with the Brixen Dolomiten Marathon,” on the other hand, Peter Pernthaler, Mayor of Villnöss, emphasised.

The Villnöss Dolomites Run starts on Saturday, 3 July at 9 am in St. Magadalena at 1,248 metres above sea level. The route leads on meadow paths to the St. Magdalena churchlet, follows the panoramic path to Coll, on forest and meadow paths to the highest point at 1,404 m Raffreid, on to the St. Jakob churchlet with a view of the Geisler group, to St. Valentin with the Romanesque-Gothic church, via Miglanz on a forest path to Teis with the mineral museum, via Kaserol to the Brixen fraction Albeins and the Eisack dam to the finish at the Brixen cathedral square. Participants have four hours to complete the extremely scenic running route.

A complete offer

“We decided to add another race to include the Villnösstal valley, which has so far only been touched upon by our longest distance Dolomites Ultra Trail. The route is not too technically demanding, which is why it can also be completed by newcomers to trail running without any problems or can serve as preparation for a longer distance,” Jocher continues.

The introduction of the Villnöss Dolomites Run closes the circle, because now there is something for everyone at the Brixen Dolomites Marathon. From the classic with its 42.195 kilometres and 2450 metres of altitude, to the Ladinia Trail (29 km/1852 m), to the Dolomites Ultra Trail, whose 84 kilometres and 4728 metres of altitude have to be covered in teams of two, and now the new Villnöss Dolomites Run. “The municipality of Brixen has been involved since the beginning. We are pleased that this event is now developing beyond the municipality. Our thanks go to the many volunteers who make the Brixen Dolomiten Marathon with its total of four distances possible in the first place and make it something very special,” emphasised Brixen’s mayor Peter Brunner.

Registrations for the spectacular Bressanone mountain running weekend are being accepted on the official website www.brixenmarathon.com/en/villnoess-dolomites-run.html. The entry fee for the Bressanone Dolomites Marathon is 69 euros until the end of the year, or 90 euros for teams of two and 140 euros for teams of four. For the Ladinia Trail the entry fee is 45 euros, for the Dolomites Ultra Trail 180 euros per team of two. Participation in the Villnöss Dolomites Run costs 40 euros.
