Exceedingly strong competition at the 6th Brixen Dolomites Marathon on Saturday

Last year’s winners Hannes Rungger and Edeltraud Thaler are again going to take on the challenge next Saturday. They are going to start at the 6th Brixen Dolomites Marathon and will have to show their mettle against a very strong competition. One of Thaler’s number one threats will be Angelica Huber, who is always good for a place among the top three. Whereas Rungger will try to come out on top against Ralf Birchmeier from Switzerland, who finished second at the LGT-Mountain Marathon in Liechtenstein, and Martin Schedler from the German ultra-running national team.

The athletes of S.G. Eisacktal have the home advantage on their side: among their starters are Sepp Blasbichler, who finished sixth last year, Helmut Mair, who is always among the top ten at the Brixen Dolomites Marathon, and Simon Pertinger, a strong up-and-comer of this team.

2.340 meters difference in altitude and a distance of 42,195 kilometres are a big challenge, even for top athletes. The Brixen Dolomites Marathon starts this Saturday in Brixen and leads its participants through an unrivalled, panoramic landscape up to the finish on the Plose.

The Brixen Dolomites Marathon is not only unique for the competing athletes but also for the spectators, who can experience the thrilling action and outstanding performances of the top athletes first hand. Moderator of the running event is Silvia Fontanive from Dolomit Event.

OK-head Eva Ellenmunter is looking forward to the event: “There are already more starters than in the last years and there are also more than 60 relay teams registered this year. It looks like it is going to be really exciting.”
