Debesay and Mamo: world-class athletes start at the Brixen Dolomites Marathon

MamoLocal top athletes compete against world-class runners in the race for a new, unbeatable record on the new route that leads past the Schatzerhütte. World champion Mamo and elite athlete Debesey are among the participants. Eritrean Petro Mamo won the 2012 mountain run world championship whereas his fellow countryman Debesey Tsige has regularly achieved top results over the last years. Mamo won, amongst others, the following races: Großglockner, Feuerkogel, Schlickeralm and the Dolomitenmann – setting new course records in each of them!

Eva Ellenmunter and her OK-Team have managed to get the runners into participating at the Brixen Dolomites Marathon, especially due to the co-operation with the Kurhaus Dr. von Guggenberg, the centre for physiotherapy and rehab in Brixen.

There are also South Tyrolean top athletes who take up the challenge in Brixen on Saturday. Hannes Rungger, who was the finishing member of the winning relay team last year, competes in the single category on June 28th. Edeltraud Thaler wants to repeat her last year’s victory in the women’s category, too.

2.340 meters difference in altitude and a distance of 42,195 kilometres are a big challenge, even for top athletes. The Brixen Dolomites Marathon starts next Saturday in Brixen and leads its participants through an unrivalled, panoramic landscape up to the finish on the Plose.

The Brixen Dolomites Marathon is not only unique for the competing athletes but also for the spectators, who can experience the thrilling action and outstanding performances of the top athletes first hand. Moderator of the running event is Silvia Fontanive from Dolomit Event.
