More than 400 single racers and over 70 relay racers took part in the 5th Brixen Dolomites Marathon last Saturday. Weather conditions were pleasant in the starting phase and cold in the Plose finish area. 2340 metres in altitude and 42.195 kilometres proved a challenge for all athletes. The cheering of supporters at the finish was enthusiastic when Hannes Rungger crossed the finish line first. The athlete from the Sarntal was beaming with joy over this great victory and said, ‘I knew it would be a long and tough race and so I planned a slower starting phase. At the steep slope towards the end of the race I caught up with Mamo and managed to overtake him.’ The Eritrean World Champion of 2012 crossed the finish line lagging 2.23 behind Hannes Rungger.
The fastest female competitor is full of praise for the marathon organizers, ‘Perfectly organized, I can strongly recommend to take part in this competition. I wouldn’t have dreamt to win the race a fourth time consecutively.’ The runner-up Anne Pedevilla crossed the finish line on the Plose being 15.54 behind.
The fastest relay-team were the SG Eisacktal Top Runners with Martin Mayrhofer, Manfred Kritzinger, Günther Mair and Toni Eisenstecken finishing in 3.32.06.
